On the initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Secretariat, the Institute for European Traffic Law (IETL), and the Council of Bureaux (COB), the Charter defines principles for the settlement of personal injury claims arising from road traffic accidents, which can be regarded as best practices for claims settlement. Ten principles outline the framework for fair, equitable, transparent, and respectful claims settlement of bodily injury claims, which safeguards the rights of those involved and affected while also serving to expedite proceedings through advance and interim payments. To promote the Charter, the initiators have launched the website www.crtvr.org , which serves as a platform for exchange of queries and ideas. The website also provides access to the Charter in various European languages.
