XXIVth EUROPEAN TRAFFIC LAW DAYS 2-3 october 2025, BUCHAREST

"With the support of the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest”

The Faculty of Law is one of the oldest faculties of the University of Bucharest. Established on November 25, 1859, through a proclamation signed by Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, it predates the founding of the University of Bucharest in 1864 by five years.

The structure of the activities has been adapted to meet the latest demands of educational modernization, reflecting the specific characteristics of the field of law. The educational plans, curricula, and training methods have been continuously refined to ensure quality education. The Faculty’s study programs encompass all academic cycles: bachelor's, master's (with 13 specialized programs, including 2 taught in English and French), and the country’s largest Doctoral School. The faculty’s commitment to excellence is evident in its comprehensive programs, which prepare students for diverse careers in law, academia, and public service.

Research activities are well-organized, with numerous research centers hosting a variety of academic events such as international conferences, debates, seminars, case studies, mock trials, and editorial projects.

Over generations, the professors at the Faculty of Law have played a pivotal role in shaping Romanian legislation, contributing notably to the Romanian Constitution and the civil and criminal procedure codes. Many have held high-ranking political positions, including presidents of parliamentary chambers, prime ministers, ministers, judges, and constitutional court judges. The academic staff has authored the most significant scientific works in Romanian legal scholarship and has gained international recognition for their contributions. The Faculty has received several prestigious awards, such as those from the Romanian Academy and the Romanian Jurist Association.

The Faculty actively collaborates with similar institutions in Romania and abroad, aiming to integrate into the global academic community. Notably, the French-Romanian Law College for European Studies was established within the Faculty in 1994, through collaboration with a consortium of esteemed French and francophone universities. Additionally, the University of Bucharest Faculty of Law is part of renowned international networks such as the Rotterdam Law Network, Law Exchange Network, and ELPIS.

At the 2025 edition of Traffic Law Days 10 students enrolled in the Faculty’s Bachelor and PhD programs will participate. The students in the third year of studies followed with excellent results the courses in Tort Law. The recent reform of the Faculty’s Bachelor program includes a course dedicated to Tort Law, in the second year of studies, tackling subjects such as the conditions for civil liability, damages for pain and suffering, third party liability, objective liability (such as vehicles) etc. Their scholar activity includes ongoing research in tort law, outstanding results in research for three of them that have been awarded first and the second places at the XVIth edition of the Faculty’s official student essay competition from April 2025, all the students proving outstanding activity in their classes of Tort Law.

It should be mentioned that the Bachelor program continues to offer an optional course on Insurance Law dedicated to insurance contract relations, that has been taught uninterruptedly for more than two decades.

Some recent research in the area of compensation for physical and mental damages, conducted at the University of Bucharest Faculty of Law includes studies in large projects, such as Aparența în Drept and Ius est ars boni et aequi, two homage oeuvres in three volumes each, dedicated to Professors Flavius A.
